Harold Greene, longtime Los Angeles news anchor, dies at 82
Greene’s daughter, Courtney, announced his death, saying she and her mother were with him when he died. The family said he had “signed off for the last time” on November 3 and shared a lighthearted message imagining him already offering advice in a newsroom in the sky.
Greene started out in journalism working as a producer and reporter in 1970. His assignments brought him to San Diego and San Francisco, then back to Los Angeles, where he worked for ABC7's Eyewitness News, KCAL 9 and CBS 2.
His final return to ABC7 came in 1982. He anchored the station’s newscasts at four, five, six and eleven in the evening until 2000.
Greene received 10 Golden Mike awards, 12 Los Angeles Press Club Awards, two Emmy awards and three honors from Edward R. Murrow. His honors also included the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Award.
Plans call for a service sometime after the holidays.
