Floodwaters Keep Davie and Plantation Neighborhoods Stuck
On November 4, floodwater remained across neighborhoods, roads and commercial areas in Davie and Plantation after several days of intense rain. Some streets and parking areas were covered by water deep enough to stop cars from passing safely, while residents reported being unable to leave their communities or get children to school.
Near Interstate 75 and Interstate 595 in Davie, Robert Hughson and his family had been stranded for two days. Water in some spots exceeded a foot, and he said cars had floated in the flooded area. Neighbors left vehicles on higher ground so they could reach them on foot without getting trapped at home.
At Shenandoah Square, a shopping plaza off State Road 84, knee-deep water filled parts of the parking lot. Brandon Jean-Baptiste parked beside the sidewalk and walked to get food because cars could not enter the plaza. He said his own neighborhood was also flooded, and he had seen fish near a home’s entrance.
Residents of Davie’s Paradise Village community described flooding that had lasted for days. Plantation Acres residents also reported water filling driveways, while dogs struggled to move through flooded areas. Drivers in Southwest Ranches encountered flooded roads, and one neighbor cautioned that small cars should not attempt to cross them.
American Heritage School in Plantation remained closed on Thursday for a third day, with its football and baseball fields underwater. A nearby golf course was also submerged. Davie said several parks would remain closed until further notice.
