Heavy Rain Floods Streets and Gas Station in Pompano Beach
Heavy rain and lightning moved across South Florida on Tuesday evening, causing flooding in parts of Broward County. In Pompano Beach, water covered streets and submerged the fueling area of a Shell station near Southwest Powerline Road and Copans Road. The station sits in a low-lying area where water collected during the storms.
Several inches of water also covered sections of Powerline Road near Northwest 32nd Street. Some vehicles managed to pass, while one driver appeared to become stuck and seek a tow truck. Flooding was also seen near Northwest 44th Street, where water covered parts of the road. A person identified as Labert described the conditions as “terrible.”
Although the rain had passed by Wednesday morning, water remained pooled on some streets. Drivers were advised to use caution, avoid flooded roads and take another route rather than drive through standing water. The extent of vehicle damage and any further traffic disruption was not immediately known.
