Jonathan Garson to Lead Pixar as Jim Morris Steps Back

On November 4, Pixar announced a leadership transition set to begin January 4, 2027. Jonathan Garson will become president, working with Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter to oversee the studio’s production and operations. Garson and Jim Morris will report to Disney Entertainment and Studios chairman Alan Bergman.

Morris, who has been Pixar’s president for 12 years, will take the title of president emeritus. He will remain an executive producer on Incredibles 3, scheduled for release in June 2028, and focus on talent development and technology initiatives at Pixar and Walt Disney Studios.

Garson joined Pixar in 2010 after more than two decades at Disney. Before his new role, he was Pixar’s general manager, having earlier overseen the studio’s marketing and franchise team. Morris joined the studio in 2005 after working at Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic. Pixar films have earned more than $12 billion worldwide during his tenure.

Jonas Rivera will take on an expanded creative executive vice president role, overseeing filmmakers and development alongside Docter and working with Garson. Rivera joined Pixar as an intern in 1994 and has worked on nearly every studio release. He won Oscars for Inside Out and Toy Story 4.

Pixar’s recent release, Toy Story 5, crossed $1 billion globally. Upcoming films include Gatto and Ghost Market, while Morris will continue his work on Incredibles 3 as the studio moves into its new leadership structure.
