Ravens Add Jacoby Brissett After Quarterback Injuries
Baltimore has added veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett as it deals with injuries to its top two quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson hurt his thumb on the Ravens’ first offensive play against Buffalo in Week 8 and later underwent surgery. He was placed on injured reserve, while Tyler Huntley will miss the rest of the season with turf toe.
The trade is expected to be completed over the weekend, with Brissett set for a possible debut in Week 10. Rookie Joe Fagnano is slated to start against Jacksonville on Thursday, November 5.
The quarterback changes have already affected wide receiver Zay Flowers, who had no catches against Buffalo. Brissett’s arrival is not expected to change Flowers’ outlook for the Jacksonville game, but could help him maintain more consistent production once the veteran takes over.
Baltimore is expected to rely heavily on running back Derrick Henry against the Jaguars. Jacksonville has had the league’s top-ranked run defense through the first eight weeks, but Henry leads the NFL in carries, ranks seventh in rushing yards and is third in rushing touchdowns.
Henry’s workload could offer a steady source of production despite the difficult matchup. He had a reduced role against Buffalo, but is expected to carry a significant share of the offense while Fagnano starts.
