Pangram Adds AI Detection for Images and Video

Pangram has expanded its AI-detection products beyond text, introducing tools that assess images and videos for signs of AI generation or editing. The video scanner can distinguish clips that are partly AI-made from those generated entirely by AI, and includes a heatmap indicating areas likely to contain AI content.

The company said an internal test found its video model identified AI material with more than 98 percent accuracy. Pangram describes the system as particularly effective at detecting newer AI video models, though the test result comes from the company’s own evaluation.

Pangram’s image model, previously offered as a research preview, is now available through its Chrome extension, which can scan images as people browse. The company said its testing found AI-generated pictures in over 99 percent of cases, while false positives accounted for just 0.27 percent. A separate description of the flagship image model cited 99.96 percent accuracy for detecting edits, compression and robustness.

Pangram CEO Max Spero said developing the image detector required accounting for phone-camera processing that can add detail to genuine photographs. The company delayed the model’s release after it initially classified photos taken with iPhone 18 Pro devices as AI-generated. Images below 512 by 512 pixels may receive lower-confidence assessments, Pangram said.

The image and video features are available to Pangram subscribers. People with free accounts can check a limited number of images without paying for a subscription.
