Dez Bryant Hires Lawyer in Texas Assault Case
Bryant has retained Levi McCathern’s law firm after receiving a notice alleging assault through physical contact, a Class C misdemeanor in Texas. The case follows a confrontation outside a Southlake restaurant on October 25 involving Bryant and 19-year-old Noah Reyes.
Bryant has acknowledged knocking Reyes’ phone from his hand. He said the dispute began after he confronted Reyes about driving recklessly and that Reyes threatened to shoot him. Bryant said Reyes had no gun and was recording him when he struck the phone away.
Reyes has said he did nothing wrong and characterized Bryant as the aggressor. Southlake police said Bryant was the only person cited after officers investigated the incident.
Police said officers were called to a retail parking lot after reports of a fight and a possible weapon. They drew their firearms as a precaution, temporarily detained several people and found no firearms at the scene. Police said the argument followed a traffic incident near Kimball Avenue.
Bryant is due in court for a hearing on December 2. His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
