Don Jr. Backs Vance’s Criticism of Iran War After GOP Losses
Donald Trump Jr. publicly backed Vice President JD Vance’s criticism of the U.S. war with Iran on November 4, as Republicans faced losses in both the House and Senate in the midterm elections. Vance said the war was the reason the party lost, adding that President Donald Trump had said so the previous night.
GOP’s Midterm Losses Put Iran War and Cost of Living in Focus
The Republican losses in both chambers of Congress put the Iran war and cost-of-living pressures at the center of a painful verdict on the Trump administration. On November 4, Donald Trump Jr. endorsed Vice President JD Vance’s blunt assessment that the war was the reason Republicans lost.
Vance also cited voters’ concerns about the cost of living and the administration’s foreign policy. He challenged supporters of the war to argue openly that its cost—including losing the Senate for six years—was worthwhile.
The election results came amid anger over rising gasoline prices, tariffs and the conflict. President Donald Trump acknowledged in a late-night interview that the war had contributed to higher gas prices, calling that a short-term problem for a longer-term gain.
Democrats gained support among moderate voters, including in Senate contests where Democratic candidates unseated Republican incumbents. About two-thirds of moderates backed Democratic House candidates, while roughly eight in 10 believed Congress fell short of adequately restraining presidential authority. Vance urged patience with the Iran conflict, arguing it was not a “forever war.”
Vance and Don Jr. Blame Iran War for GOP Midterm Defeat
Vice President JD Vance delivered a pointed warning to Republicans after the party lost control of both chambers of Congress: voters’ concerns about the Iran war helped drive the defeat. On November 4, Donald Trump Jr. endorsed Vance’s assessment, a striking sign of the pressure facing the administration after the midterms.
Vance also cited the cost of living and the administration’s foreign policy posture. He called on supporters of the war to defend its price openly, including the loss of the Senate for the next six years, rather than avoid responsibility for the outcome.
President Donald Trump acknowledged that the conflict had pushed gasoline prices higher, though he described the increase as a short-term problem in pursuit of a longer-term gain. Vance urged Trump supporters to remain patient, arguing that the conflict would not become a prolonged Middle East war like Iraq or Afghanistan.
The election also showed Democrats gaining ground with moderate voters. Roughly two-thirds backed Democratic House candidates, and about 80 percent believed lawmakers were not adequately restraining presidential power.
