Seahawks Acquire Quenton Nelson From Colts for Two Draft Picks

Seattle is adding an eight-time Pro Bowl guard to bolster an offensive line that has struggled and support a ground game seeking more consistency. Nelson, 30, is expected to take his usual position at left guard; Seattle could shift Grey Zabel to right guard. The Seahawks are 4-3 and coming off a win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Nelson has played all 136 games he started for Indianapolis since the Colts selected him sixth overall in 2018. He has earned six All-Pro selections, including three first-team honors. In seven games this season, TruMedia credits him with allowing six pressures and zero sacks.

The trade comes as Indianapolis has lost three straight and fired general manager Chris Ballard last week. Assistant general manager Ed Dodds is serving as interim general manager. Nelson’s contract expires after this season, and he can become a free agent in March. Seattle will pay the remaining $9.777 million on his deal, and could seek to extend him.

The Colts gain draft picks rather than risk losing Nelson in free agency. Other players cited as potential trade candidates before the deadline include running back Jonathan Taylor and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. The transaction depends on Nelson passing his physical, and neither team had publicly confirmed it by October 27.
