Capito Secures Another Term in West Virginia Senate Contest
Shelley Capito won another term in the U.S. Senate, defeating Democrat Rachel Anderson in West Virginia. With 76 percent of votes counted, Capito had 227,414 votes, or 57.7 percent, while Anderson had 152,424 votes, or 38.6 percent. The Associated Press declared Capito the winner on November 3.
Capito’s victory came after President Donald Trump endorsed her in 2025. In the endorsement, Trump praised her work on energy and growth policies and noted her role leading the Senate panel overseeing environmental and public works matters.
Capito has also criticized the duration of the Iran war. In a September interview, she said she would urge Trump to end it, citing public expectations and rising gas prices.
In a separate House race, Democrat Eugene Vindman won reelection in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. The available results gave no vote totals for that contest.
Capito Wins Again Despite Saying Iran War Should End
Shelley Capito secured another Senate term in West Virginia, winning with 57.7 percent of votes counted in the reported tally, against Democrat Rachel Anderson’s 38.6 percent. The Associated Press declared her the winner on November 3, with 76 percent of the votes in.
The result keeps in office a senator endorsed by President Donald Trump, who praised Capito’s growth and energy agenda in 2025. Yet Capito has publicly urged Trump to end the Iran war, saying its continuation and rising gas prices have disappointed Americans who expected a shorter conflict.
That tension puts a notable qualification on a win for a Republican backed by Trump: Capito has voiced a demand to change course on a war that she says is affecting the public. The election outcome nevertheless gives her another term in the Senate.
Democrat Eugene Vindman also won reelection in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. No vote totals for that race were included in the available results.
West Virginia Voters Return Capito to the Senate
West Virginia voters returned Republican Shelley Capito to the U.S. Senate, giving her 57.7 percent of the vote in a tally with 76 percent counted. Democrat Rachel Anderson had 38.6 percent. The Associated Press announced her victory on November 3.
Capito’s reelection follows President Donald Trump’s endorsement in 2025. Trump praised her work on growth and energy policy and her leadership of the Senate committee responsible for environmental and public works issues. The result preserves the seat for a Republican whom Trump backed.
Capito has also said she would tell Trump to end the Iran war, pointing to the public’s expectation that it would be short-term and to rising gas prices. Her comments put pressure on the president’s approach, while her Senate victory confirms support for her continued representation of West Virginia.
Democrat Eugene Vindman won reelection in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District as well. No vote totals for that contest were included in the available results.
