Haynes Wins Texas’ 30th Congressional District
Frederick Douglas Haynes III, a Dallas pastor and civil rights advocate, won the race for Texas’ 30th Congressional District, defeating Republican Everett Jackson. Haynes will be a first-time federal lawmaker when he enters Congress.
The district, covering most of southern Dallas County and a small part of Tarrant County, will remain represented by a Democrat after the election. Its boundaries were reshaped in a redistricting process ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Haynes leads Friendship-West Baptist Church, whose congregation numbers more than 13,000. His campaign focused on expanding economic prospects, protecting the ballot and changing the criminal justice system, drawing on his years as a pastor and community advocate.
Jackson, who had no previous political experience, criticized Rep. Jasmine Crockett and backed federal budget reductions promoted by the Department of Government Efficiency, as well as stronger national security measures. Crockett vacated her House position to seek a U.S. Senate seat, leaving an opening in the district she had served since January 2023.
