Camp Verde deputies rescue woman and dog from floodwaters
Deputies from the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office reached a mobile home surrounded by fast-moving floodwater on November 1 and brought its resident and her dog to safety. Body-camera footage shows marshals wading through the water, then helping the distressed woman out of the home. When she struggled to breathe as one deputy carried her, they set her down and guided her through the water on foot. Her dog was taken to safety separately.
The rescue came during a three-day storm that ran from October 30 through November 1, bringing several feet of rain to parts of Arizona. Flooding caused damage and evacuations in several communities. Near Page Springs in Yavapai County, Oak Creek rose above 21 feet, while flooding elsewhere led to water rescues, road closures and damage to homes and businesses.
Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs declared a statewide emergency on November 2, making $200,000 available for flood recovery. The funds are intended to support infrastructure repairs, road clearing and help for people displaced from their homes. Camp Verde’s marshal’s office said deputies had also assisted with evacuations, stranded motorists and resident welfare checks during the flooding, working alongside fire crews and other emergency personnel.
