Barcelona End European Drought With 3–0 Win Over Aston Villa

Barcelona took the lead in the seventh minute after João Gomes gave the ball away. Lamine Yamal collected it and curled a finish past the Aston Villa defense, scoring his 14th Champions League goal. That made him the competition’s leading teenage scorer, moving ahead of Kylian Mbappé’s total of 13 before turning 20.

Villa had spells of pressure in the first half, including a chance for Johan Manzambi, but could not find an equalizer. Barcelona controlled much of the match and went into halftime with a one-goal advantage.

Raphinha doubled the lead in the 53rd minute with a shot that took a slight deflection and slipped into the bottom corner. Just over 10 minutes later, João Cancelo sent in a cross that Raphinha turned in from close range to complete his brace.

Barcelona finished with 16 shots and 1.99 expected goals; Villa had nine shots and 0.72 expected goals. Nicolas Jackson, who had scored eight times in his previous 12 appearances across competitions, managed one shot. Barcelona’s defense was missing players through injuries, but Villa were unable to make the most of the openings they found.

The result ended Barcelona’s 18-game European winless stretch and delivered its first Champions League shutout since April 2025. The team sits inside the league phase’s top eight and next faces Atlético Madrid in La Liga before the November international break. Its Champions League campaign continues after a 4–2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 3.
