Commanders Trade Ideas Target Offensive and Defensive Line Help

Washington’s 2-4-1 start and injuries have created questions along the interior offensive line, at defensive tackle and potentially at running back. With the November 10 trade deadline approaching, possible deals would need to bring back players who can contribute immediately and justify the depth Washington gives up.

Cornerback Mike Sainristil did not play a defensive snap in the Commanders’ 27-10 win over Philadelphia. Amik Robertson, Trey Amos and Rasul Douglas played 68, 60 and 32 snaps, respectively, while coach Dan Quinn praised Nick Cross at nickel. Sainristil’s deal runs until 2027, and his 2027 base pay is set at roughly $1.85 million. One proposed target is Las Vegas guard Jackson Powers-Johnson, who has started at right guard, center and left guard. The deal would make sense only if Washington expects him to earn a role.

Receiver Dyami Brown played 15 offensive snaps against Philadelphia and is in the final year of his contract. He could interest a team seeking speed, but Terry McLaurin is out for the season and Treylon Burks recently dealt with a foot injury. A possible exchange for New Orleans running back Kendre Miller is not compelling unless Washington sees a specific role for him: Miller has gained 159 yards on 57 rushing attempts, averaging 2.8 yards, and his deal ends after this season.

Armstrong would be the hardest player to part with. Against Philadelphia, he recorded seven tackles, brought down the quarterback for a sack, forced a fumble and made a tackle behind the line of scrimmage over 40 defensive snaps. A potential target is New England tackle Christian Barmore, who played 41.9% of the Patriots’ defensive snaps. Barmore is signed through 2028, with his base pay set at $18 million for 2027 and $19 million for 2028. Washington would need to view him as a major interior upgrade to take on that cost and lose Armstrong’s production.
