Bill Hader Set for Guest Appearance on Abbott Elementary

Hader announced the guest role during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on November 2, 2026. He joked that he needed to act as though Philadelphia was his home to land the part, including professing affection for the Phillies. Hader grew up in Oklahoma, while Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson is from West Philadelphia.

Hader said he was excited about joining the sitcom, but did not reveal who he will play or when the episode will air. His appearance follows a recent run of guest stars on the series, including comedian Ali Wong, who played a special education certification instructor, and Miranda Cosgrove, who appeared as a substitute teacher.

The casting brings Hader and Brunson together in live action after they voiced characters in the animated film The Cat in the Hat. Hader plays the title character, while Brunson voices Sherri. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on November 6. Hader is also known for creating and starring in HBO’s Barry, broadcast between 2019 and 2023, a role that brought him two Emmy Awards for lead actor in a comedy series. New episodes of Abbott Elementary arrive on ABC each Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., with streaming on Hulu the following day.
