Influencer Criticized After Fan Says Photo Required Payment

Catlett said she approached an influencer she admired, complimented her and asked for advice on building a following. The woman, whose identity Catlett has not disclosed, allegedly replied that people followed her because she was attractive. When Catlett asked to take a picture together, she said the influencer told her she could not share it without paying.

Catlett described the interaction as upsetting and said she was now determined to grow her account beyond the influencer’s. She also criticized what she saw as entitlement among some online creators. Her video had been viewed more than 3.5 million times, drawing support from viewers and other creators.

Influencer Haley Baylee said the response was unusual and that creators depend on the women who support them. She invited Catlett to collaborate if she visits New York City. Singer Kaylee Rose also sent encouragement. Catlett said she would not identify the influencer because she did not want to direct online hate toward her, despite receiving requests from viewers to name her.
