Colts Keep Daniel Jones as Starting Quarterback

On November 2, Colts coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Daniel Jones will remain Indianapolis’ starting quarterback for its Week 9 game against the Dallas Cowboys. The decision came after the Colts were beaten 42-7 by division rival Jacksonville on Sunday, a defeat that intensified discussion about whether the team should turn to Anthony Richardson.

Jones completed 19 of 28 passes for 144 yards against the Jaguars, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. He has recorded 1,542 passing yards, five touchdowns and nine interceptions over eight games this season. The Colts are 2-6 and traded away several key players during the past week.

Steichen said Jones gives the team its best chance to win, while also noting that the quarterback was not solely responsible for the team’s struggles. He pointed to execution across the offense, including routes, blocking and pass protection. Richardson, the fourth overall selection in the 2023 draft, entered Sunday’s game in the fourth quarter with Indianapolis trailing by 35 points. He voiced support for Jones after the loss. Richardson has made 15 starts for the Colts.
