Katey Sagal Joins Best Medicine for Recurring Role
Katey Sagal is joining Fox’s medical comedy-drama Best Medicine in a recurring role as Kathleen Gavin, Louisa’s estranged mother. The announcement came on November 2, and Sagal’s episodes are scheduled to air later this season.
Kathleen returns to Port Wenn after being away for a long time, disrupting Louisa’s life. The character is portrayed as combative and self-serving, and Martin soon learns why residents have given her the nickname “Shady Katie.” Abigail Spencer plays Louisa, while Josh Charles plays Martin.
The series follows Martin Best, a surgeon who leaves his career in Boston to work as a general practitioner in a seaside community where he spent childhood summers. His brusque manner causes friction with the locals, including schoolteacher Louisa. The show is based on the British series Doc Martin.
Sagal’s television credits include Married … With Children, Sons of Anarchy, 8 Simple Rules, The Conners and The Abandons. Her performance in Sons of Anarchy earned her a Golden Globe, and she has also voiced a role in Futurama. Her upcoming work includes the Apple TV comedy She’s Fine.
