Jessica Alba Removes Halloween Photos After Kerrigan Costume Backlash

Alba wore a white skating outfit, ice skates and a fake bloodied bandage on her knee. Sawyer portrayed Harding in a sparkling maroon dress and carried a baseball bat. The costumes referenced the 1994 attack in which Shane Stant hit Kerrigan’s leg with a police baton; he had been hired as part of a plot involving Harding’s former husband, Jeff Gillooly.

Alba posted the images on Instagram on November 1 with a caption identifying the pair as Nancy and Tonya. Some commenters objected to making a costume out of an attack that injured Kerrigan and disrupted her career. Others defended the joke, with one calling it “brilliant.” The pictures were removed from Alba’s Instagram but were still visible on Threads on the morning of November 2, 2026.

Kerrigan withdrew from the 1994 U.S. Championships but recovered in time to compete at the Winter Olympics held in Norway, earning silver. Harding avoided a conviction for plotting the attack, instead admitting guilt to conspiring to obstruct the investigation. The U.S. Figure Skating Association later banned her for life.

Harding is preparing to skate in a public exhibition, “Tonya and Friends,” scheduled for December 12 in Vancouver, Washington. She said she has been skating twice a week since spring. The show is not a competition.
