Brittany Mahomes criticizes penalty after Chiefs fall to Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs lost 28-24 to the Denver Broncos after a late penalty wiped out what appeared to be a go-ahead touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Rashee Rice. Officials called a false start on Chiefs tackle Jaylon Moore, moving Kansas City back five yards. Mahomes was sacked on the final play, ending the game and giving Denver the win at home.

Brittany Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes’ wife, criticized the call in an Instagram Story. She said it was the weakest call she had seen and argued that the Chiefs were singled out. Her post drew criticism from some fans, while others also considered the penalty questionable.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he saw Moore move his head but did not see a false start. He described the call as one person’s judgment. Reid also said Kansas City had more than 100 penalty yards and needed to do a better job avoiding penalties.

Denver trailed 24-13 in the third quarter before scoring twice in the fourth. After Harrison Butker missed a 54-yard field goal, Bo Nix connected with rookie Jonah Coleman for a 51-yard gain, then Coleman scored to put the Broncos ahead 28-24. Kansas City drove inside Denver’s five-yard line in the closing minute but could not score.

The loss was Kansas City’s second in a row after opening the season with five wins. The Chiefs are set to host the New York Jets on November 8.
