Staffords Welcome Navy SEALs Before Rams-Chargers Game

Before the Rams’ annual military-honoring matchup with the Chargers on November 1, Matthew and Kelly Stafford arranged a suite for 10 current and former Navy SEALs, along with their companions, at SoFi Stadium. Stafford greeted the group before kickoff, shaking hands with the military members before returning to prepare for the game.

The Staffords’ daughters joined the pregame tribute. They wore customized gray camouflage jerseys with “Freedom” on the front and “Thank you” on the back, while Kelly spent additional time with the guests on the field. The group also had a chance to take photos there with the family and received shirts supplied by the Staffords.

The game included other tributes to military members. The vocal group Voices of Service performed the national anthem, and the Corps Color Guard presented the colors and took part in the third-quarter program. At halftime, the Rams recognized six Purple Heart recipients: Uriel Lemus, Simon L. Sandoval, Osman Lima, Bladimir Rodríguez, Dennis Cavaltera and Nicholas Dockery.

Stafford said people close to him, including his grandfather and brother-in-law, had served, and that their sacrifices mattered to his family. He threw 17 completions on 25 attempts, gaining 157 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Rams’ 24-9 win gave them back-to-back victories for the first time this season and brought their record to 4-4.
