Marty Erlichman, Barbra Streisand’s Manager, Dies at 97

Erlichman guided Streisand from her early days as a New York nightclub performer to an international career in music, theater, film and television. He handled the business side of her work, negotiating agreements across those fields and helping shape her concerts and tours.

The pair worked together for more than 60 years without a contract, Streisand said. In a statement, she called him irreplaceable and said she was grateful for his friendship, loyalty and support. She also recalled that he had recently been trying to persuade her to tour, promising to be with her throughout.

Erlichman helped produce Streisand’s 1994 HBO special, “Barbra: The Concert,” which earned him an Emmy and a Peabody. His film-producing credits included Streisand’s 1974 comedy “For Pete’s Sake,” “Coma” and “Breathless.” He also represented the Irish traditional ensemble led by the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem, as well as clients including George Foreman, Bob Crewe and Chevy Chase.

Born in Brooklyn in 1929, Erlichman graduated from Drake University. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Miko Mayama Erlichman; their son, J.J.; a daughter-in-law; and four grandchildren. The family requested that, instead of sending flowers, people contribute to St. Jude’s pediatric medical center or the kidney charity known as the National Kidney Foundation. A private service is planned.
