My Chemical Romance Takes First Billboard 200 No. 1 With The Black Parade
The Black Parade climbed from No. 139 to the top spot after the anniversary edition generated 78,000 equivalent album units in the United States. Pure album purchases accounted for 68,000 of those units, and the album’s total rose 653% from the previous week. The reissue included six bonus tracks and 20 physical editions.
The band originally released the rock opera on October 23, 2006. It debuted at No. 2, selling 240,000 copies in its first week, while the Hannah Montana soundtrack took the top position with 281,000. The new chart result gives My Chemical Romance its first Billboard 200 No. 1 and sets the longest gap between an album’s release and its first time at No. 1, surpassing the nearly 16-year wait for Toby Keith’s 35 Biggest Hits.
The anniversary release coincided with a tour and five shows at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, where the band performed the album in full. Commentators cited the elaborate concept, renewed interest in the group and discovery by younger listeners as factors in its continuing appeal. The Black Parade is the first catalog album to reach the Billboard 200’s top spot in 2026.
Olivia Rodrigo’s track about a girl feeling down despite being in love fell to No. 2. Morgan Wallen, Ella Langley and Noah Kahan followed at Nos. 3 through 5.
