Halloween Weekend Shootings Kill at Least 13 Across US
At least 13 people were killed and 92 injured in shootings across the United States over Halloween weekend, as gunfire struck communities from California to Delaware. The preliminary nationwide tally included attacks at parties, near college campuses and around major events; the incidents left victims and witnesses caught up in violence during celebrations and gatherings.
In Dallas, four people died and 15 were injured in three shootings in the Deep Ellum entertainment district on Saturday night. Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said investigators were working to determine whether the attacks, which unfolded over about 75 minutes, were connected. Some people had been arrested, he said, but police had not announced charges.
Two shootings near Birmingham’s Legion Field followed the Magic City Classic football game, killing one person and injuring eight. In Delaware, a shooting at an outdoor party in Ellendale killed a 17-year-old girl and wounded eight others; later, six people were shot on a Newark street close to the University of Delaware. In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after an altercation preceded a shooting, police said.
Other attacks included a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, where a 31-year-old woman identified by relatives as pregnant was killed and six people were wounded. Shootings also killed a woman in Flint, Michigan, and a 19-year-old woman in Bloomington, Illinois. In Bloomington, Indiana, seven people were injured, while seven were wounded at a Halloween party in Texas. Police investigations were ongoing in several cities.
