Two Halloween Store Shootings Leave Two Dead
On October 30, gunfire at a Spirit Halloween store in Madison Heights left a 21-year-old man dead. Police said the victim and a 21-year-old man suspected of shooting him knew each other and had argued before the suspect fired several times. The suspect was taken to hospital after being assaulted by members of the victim’s family, police said. He remains detained as authorities investigate and plan charges.
The suspect’s wife said the family was leaving the store with their three children when the victim confronted her husband. She said her husband feared the man might be armed and fired in self-defense. Officers found a 9-millimeter pistol there.
A separate shooting later that night at a store in Fairfield, California, killed 31-year-old Constance Hages and wounded six others, police said. Family members told detectives she was pregnant; authorities are working to verify that information. Four people were in critical condition, while two others were treated and released.
Fairfield police described the shooting as targeted and said they believe one suspect was involved. Detectives were interviewing witnesses and working to identify the suspect. Police said the public was not in ongoing danger.
