Village Halloween Parade Draws Crowds to Lower Manhattan

The parade began at Canal Street and Sixth Avenue and traveled north to West 16th Street in Greenwich Village. Its theme, “Body & Soul,” drew on motion, dreams and the Horse zodiac year, with costumes and performances ranging from spooky outfits to outsized theatrical creations.

Music and dance featured throughout the route, including disco performances, groups inspired by Miss Congeniality, and the Dolly Parton drumline. A mariachi ensemble fronted by a youthful vocalist performed in a Día de los Muertos tribute, prompting spectators to sing along.

Director Spike Lee joined the procession and filmed the “Thriller” dance troupe. Floats included shouting zombies and Subway Mania wrestlers, adding to the parade’s mix of spectacle and humor.

The event culminated around 11 p.m. after hours of costumes, music and performances.
