Colorado Faces Possible Big 12 Fine After Fans Tear Down Goalposts

The Buffaloes ended a five-game losing streak with the overtime victory at Folsom Field, their first Big 12 win of the season. Isaac Wilson connected with tight end Charlie Williams on an 11-yard touchdown to secure the win. Fans, many wearing Halloween costumes, then poured onto the field and pulled down the goalposts.

The conference’s standard penalty for a field invasion is $50,000. It reviews each case to assess whether visiting players and game officials had a safe route from the field before deciding whether to impose a fine. Commissioner Brett Yormark has said player, coach and official safety is the Big 12’s priority.

Colorado avoided a penalty after fans ran onto the field following a 2025 win over Iowa State; the conference waived the fine after finding the school had followed its crowd-management procedures. Arizona State, by contrast, was fined $50,000 and reprimanded after a separate incident last October. Colorado could receive a decision as soon as Tuesday.

Coach Deion Sanders praised fans for continuing to support the team and said the game should have ended in regulation. He also credited the running game with easing pressure on Wilson. Colorado has four games left and needs three more wins to qualify for a bowl. The Buffaloes next face Arizona State, followed by Houston, Cincinnati and UCF.
