Colorado Beats Kansas State in Overtime on Wilson’s Touchdown Pass
Colorado ended a five-game losing streak on October 31, beating Kansas State 27-24 in overtime in Boulder. Isaac Wilson connected with tight end Charlie Williams on an 11-yard touchdown pass to secure the win after the Wildcats kicked a field goal in the extra period.
Kansas State tied the game with two seconds left in regulation, when Blake Barnett threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Oakley. The Wildcats had a chance to go for a two-point conversion, but after a Colorado timeout, first-year coach Collin Klein sent out Luis Rodriguez to kick the tying extra point instead.
Kansas State chose to play defense first in overtime. The Wildcats stopped Colorado at the 7-yard line, and Rodriguez put them ahead with a 25-yard field goal. Colorado answered on third-and-9, as Wilson faked a handoff and threw to Williams. Wilson completed 14 of 21 passes for 185 yards; Barnett had 224 yards and three touchdowns on 18-of-28 passing.
Richard Young ran for a career-high 120 yards on 24 carries and scored twice. JaQuail Smith added a 47-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Kansas State’s Rodriguez, who had made all 11 of his previous field-goal attempts this season, missed tries from 49 and 43 yards during the game.
Kansas State, now 4-4, hosts Oklahoma State next Saturday. Colorado, 3-5, visits Arizona State.
