Toronto Police Name Suspect in CEO Home Invasion

On October 31, Toronto police named Daijohn Richards, 23, as one of three suspects in the October 29 invasion of David Morton’s home in the Bridle Path neighborhood. Investigators suspect Richards sustained an accidental gunshot wound to his shoulder, fired by another intruder during the attack. All three suspects remain at large, and authorities are seeking Richards under a Canada-wide warrant.

The masked intruders entered the home around 3:45 a.m. and confronted Morton, 75, along with his wife, 64-year-old Doriana Zohil-Morton, and their two adult daughters. Police said the group demanded valuables. Morton and both daughters were shot, while his wife was struck with a hammer. The family survived; two victims suffered injuries described by police as life-altering.

Richards went to St. Joseph’s Health Centre for treatment and was discharged late Thursday morning. Hospital staff alerted police about his gunshot wound. Inspector Kristy Smith said officers had not yet established enough evidence to connect him to the invasion before he left. Investigators later linked him to the case through forensic work and neighborhood inquiries.

Richards faces charges including robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent to wound, break and enter, and disguise with intent. Police have urged him to contact a lawyer and surrender. Smith warned the public not to approach the other suspects and asked anyone with information about the men’s whereabouts to contact police.
