Toronto CEO and Family Injured in Home Invasion
Three masked men entered the gated Bridle Path home of MAC Group CEO David Morton at about 3:45 a.m. on October 29, Toronto police said. Two carried handguns and the third had a hammer. The men demanded valuables, and a struggle followed, during which the suspects fired several times and one family member was struck with the hammer, police said.
Morton, 75, and his two daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, sustained gunshot wounds. His wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, was hit with the hammer. Police did not specify which injuries each person sustained. Two family members suffered life-altering injuries, while the other two had serious injuries that were not life-threatening. All four were taken to hospital.
The suspects left in an SUV. Police said it was unclear whether anything was taken, and they have not released descriptions of the men. Investigators received surveillance footage from inside the home. Inspector Kristy Smith said police had no information indicating the residence had been singled out in advance.
Smith said Toronto has recently seen more violent home invasions in affluent neighborhoods, while carjackings have declined. She said some home invasions have involved attempts to steal vehicles. Mayor Olivia Chow said police security would be increased in the area and urged anyone with information to come forward.
