Giants’ Cam Skattebo Fined $7,073 for Helmet Hit
The fine followed a first-quarter play in which Skattebo lowered his head and drove into Texans safety M.J. Stewart after taking a handoff. Officials penalized the Giants 15 yards for unnecessary roughness, and the league later assessed the running back for illegal use of the helmet.
Skattebo criticized the flag after the game, saying he intended to keep running with the same physical approach despite the possibility of further penalties or fines. Giants right guard Francis Mauigoa said Skattebo was angry about the call and defended the play as football.
Skattebo was the only one of eight players fined for helmet infractions in Week 7 who was also penalized during the game. The other seven players were fined amounts ranging from $4,916 to $47,662; the largest fine went to Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton, who was fined for a second consecutive week.
The Texans game was a career-best performance for Skattebo, who rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Across seven games, he has 418 rushing yards and two touchdowns, along with 11 catches for 76 yards. New York improved to 4-2-1 with the win and will next play the Eagles in Week 9 after its bye.
