Fever Add Sheri Sam to Front Office Scouting Team
On October 30, the Indiana Fever named Sheri Sam assistant general manager, giving the franchise a scouting-focused addition as it reshapes its front office. The team also hired Vernard Hollins as a scout, with his overseas playing experience potentially useful in evaluating international players.
Sam played 10 seasons in the WNBA, including for Indiana in 2007, and won championships with the Seattle Storm in 2004 and Detroit Shock in 2008. She most recently worked as the Portland Trail Blazers’ scouting manager, a role she had held since 2022. In Indiana, her responsibilities are expected to include scouting, analytics and player evaluation, with attention turning to the college season.
The hires come after team president Kelly Krauskopf stepped down and general manager Amber Cox was dismissed. Indiana has not yet named a replacement for Cox. Mel Raines, president and CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, is currently directing the operation.
The Fever finished sixth despite winning a franchise-record 28 regular-season games, then lost to the Las Vegas Aces in the first playoff round. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are central to the roster, while Kelsey Mitchell’s future is a major free-agency question. A return by Mitchell could leave limited salary-cap room, making the search for affordable depth especially important. Clark could receive a pay increase under the new CBA’s EPIC provision, though her decision remains unsettled.
Sam’s scouting work is expected to support decisions on draft picks, free agents and player development as Indiana builds its roster for the 2027 season.
