Martinez Keeps Physical Custody as Berry’s Overnight Visits End
Olivier Martinez said he hopes his 13-year-old son, Maceo, and Halle Berry can have a better relationship in the future after a judge ruled on their custody dispute on October 29. Martinez said he wants Maceo to love and forgive his mother, rather than hate her.
The judge dissolved a temporary restraining order against Berry and rejected Martinez’s bid for a domestic-violence protection order. Martinez retained primary physical custody, and Berry lost overnight visits. The parents will retain joint legal custody, with the arrangement set for review at a hearing scheduled for next month.
The court also ordered Berry to attend counselling sessions aimed at repairing her relationship with Maceo. Her attorney, Marina Beck, said Berry was pleased the temporary order had been dissolved and remained focused on her family’s well-being.
The dispute began earlier this month when Martinez alleged Berry had physically abused their son, including by jumping on and choking him during an alleged September 26 incident. Berry has denied the allegations. She had asked the court to restore their previous 50/50 custody arrangement and said Martinez was turning Maceo against her, making him angry and hostile toward her.
Martinez’s attorney said Berry’s lawyers had sought to restore equal physical custody, but the judge rejected that request. The latest ruling followed a two-week court battle.
