Overturned Truck Closes Eastbound I-10 Near Houston’s East Loop

The crash occurred at about 2:50 a.m. on the East Freeway near Mercury Drive and the I-610 East Loop. The overturned truck blocked every eastbound lane. The left and right shoulders were also closed, leaving drivers unable to pass through the area on the mainlanes.

A hazmat spill was present at the scene. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the truck had overturned and that the closure was expected to last several hours. TranStar camera images seemed to show a FedEx truck hauling a pair of box trailers carrying wooden pallets.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use an alternate route, with Highway 90 suggested as one option. The cause of the crash and whether anyone was injured remain unknown. The closure was expected to continue for several hours.
