Boozer’s First Triple-Double Keeps Grizzlies Undefeated

Rookie Cameron Boozer had 18 points and 12 assists as Memphis defeated Portland 124-103 on October 29. The triple-double was the first of his NBA career and made him the youngest forward in league history to reach the milestone, surpassing a record held by LeBron James.

Boozer shot 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from three-point range. His passing added another dimension to a performance that helped the Grizzlies extend their unbeaten start and complete a 4-0 road trip.

Memphis pulled away late after Portland made several runs. With the Grizzlies ahead by two, they scored 10 straight points late in the third quarter to open a 12-point lead. Memphis outscored Portland 33-20 in the fourth.

Isaiah Stewart led the Grizzlies’ reserves with 18 points, while Cedric Coward contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Portland’s Deni Avdija led all scorers with 24 points and added nine rebounds and seven assists.

Ja Morant scored 14 points while facing his old club for the first time, then exited during the final period because of a hamstring issue and was unable to come back. Memphis next visits Sacramento on Saturday; Portland plays at Utah that day.
