Jassy Says Prime Video Now Profitable, With Revenue in the Tens of Billions

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced on October 29 that Prime Video has become a major business, bringing in tens of billions of dollars a year and making a profit. Jassy made the remarks during Amazon’s quarterly earnings call, pointing to the service’s entertainment and sports offerings as sources of momentum.

Amazon MGM Studios has recorded more than $1.2 billion in worldwide box office sales so far this year. Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, has earned an estimated $684 million globally. Jassy also cited series such as Reacher, Fallout, Off Campus, The Boys, The Summer I Turned Pretty and Carrie. Reacher’s fourth season drew 66 million viewers worldwide during its first 28 days, according to Amazon; a fifth season is filming, and the show has been renewed for a sixth.

Live sports have also attracted audiences. Prime Video’s first six Thursday Night Football games this season averaged 17.7 million viewers, a 16% increase from last year’s full-season average, based on Nielsen figures supplied by Amazon. The service’s second NBA season drew more than 2 million U.S. viewers for its opening doubleheader, more than twice last season’s full-season average.

Amazon’s video and music expenses totaled $5.9 billion in the third quarter, up about 7% from a year earlier. Spending on content for the first nine months of 2026 rose about 20% to $18.8 billion.
