The Odyssey Drives Record Imax Quarter
Imax reported $712 million in worldwide box-office receipts for the three months ended in September, up from $368 million in the same quarter a year earlier. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was the leading draw, bringing in more than $550 million on Imax screens globally and setting a new high for the company.
Revenue climbed 64% to $174.6 million. Net income reached $117.1 million, compared with $22.6 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA rose 133% to $121 million, while adjusted earnings per share increased to $2.21 from 47 cents.
Chief Executive Rich Gelfond said the results reflected growing audience demand for the Imax experience and opportunities to expand the business. He also pointed to record margins and said audiences increasingly value distinctive entertainment experiences.
Imax said it expects to substantially exceed its 2026 guidance of $1.4 billion in global box office. It has signed agreements for more than 100 theater systems around the world this year, with 65% intended for new locations. The company’s shares rose nearly 4% in early trading after the results were announced.
The remaining 2026 slate includes Dune: Part Three and a China release of Avengers: Doomsday. Films planned for 2027 include Star Wars: Starfighter and Man of November 6, 2026. Imax will also present Avengers: Secret Wars and the original Star Wars in 70mm.
