Five-Star Guard Reese Alston Commits to LSU
LSU added a major recruit to its 2027 men’s basketball class on October 29, when Reese Alston announced his commitment to the Tigers. The five-star guard is ranked No. 9 nationally in the cycle by 247Sports and is the top-ranked player in Texas, according to 247Sports.
Alston, whose father is former NBA guard Rafer Alston, chose LSU over Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee and Wichita State. His commitment makes him the third high school player pledged to the Tigers for 2027, joining King Gibson and Ahmad Hudson.
The class is ranked No. 2 nationally, and Alston is the first elite high school prospect Will Wade has landed since returning to LSU. The commitment also marks a shift toward building the 2027-28 roster through high school recruiting, after LSU relied heavily on transfers and international players for the upcoming season.
A 247Sports scouting assessment described Alston as a player who can generate offense for himself and teammates. It also highlighted his ability to operate as the central playmaker in an offense, his balance and strength through contact, and his potential as an on-ball defender.
Alston’s arrival is expected for the 2027-28 season. He could potentially leave for the NBA after one college season, while his commitment may help LSU attract other recruits.
