Monarch Season 3 Talks Include a Creative Shakeup
Apple TV and Legendary Television are discussing another installment in the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters series that would take the series in a new creative direction. The potential season would have new writers and a new showrunner, with new Titans from Legendary’s Monsterverse expected to feature. Multiple candidates have been approached about the showrunner role, and a search for writers is underway.
The series’ first season debuted in 2023, and its second season ran earlier in 2026. Chris Black, who co-created the show with Matt Fraction, served as showrunner for Season 2. The future of the existing human characters has not been settled, so it is unclear whether members of the current cast would return.
The possible changes to Monarch would not affect a separate prequel series centered on a younger Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell. Joby Harold is set to showrun that project, which follows Shaw on a mission in 1984 to stop the Soviets from unleashing a devastating Titan. The cast also features Stana Katic, Connie Nielsen, Nyasha Hatendi, Ralph Ineson, Corey Stoll, Pilou Asbaek and Millie Brady.
The prequel remains in development, while Apple and Legendary’s discussions about Monarch’s third season are ongoing. The next Monsterverse feature film, Godzilla vs. Kong: Supernova, is scheduled for release in 2027.
