15-Year-Old Boy Dies After Bronx Street Shooting

The boy was found with a gunshot wound near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont section shortly before 9:30 a.m. on October 29. Officers transported him in a police vehicle to St. Barnabas Hospital, and doctors declared him dead. His name was identified as Javits Frimpong. He was 15.

Police are seeking three male suspects, believed to be teenagers. They were seen fleeing south on Fulton Avenue toward Crotona Park, dressed in black; some descriptions also said they wore blue surgical masks. A sneaker was found at the scene. No arrests have been made, and police have not announced a motive.

Frimpong’s father said his son had faced bullying at an earlier time. Authorities have not indicated whether bullying played a role in the killing. The boy was on his way to school, although police had not confirmed that detail. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
