Giants Weigh Roster Moves as Trade Deadline Nears
The New York Giants enter their bye week alone atop the NFC East, with a 4-2-1 record and the November 10 trade deadline approaching. On October 27, general manager Joe Schoen said the team will assess potential moves while weighing both immediate needs and longer-term costs.
The Giants have lost passer Jaxson Dart and defensive end Brian Burns to season-ending injuries, among other absences. Schoen said those injuries would not determine whether the team makes a deal. He said the Giants like their roster but will look for ways to improve it if the price makes sense.
Schoen’s options are shaped by limited draft capital: New York does not have a fourth- or fifth-round pick. He said the team may consider future picks, players’ contracts and its depth when evaluating possible trades. The Giants have been in contact with teams that have begun making deals, he added.
Potential areas to address include the defensive and offensive lines and running back. The Giants have also considered lower-cost routes, such as signing a free agent or adding a player from another team’s practice squad. Schoen cautioned that a move is not worthwhile if the asking price exceeds the team’s assessment of a player’s value.
The Giants’ next two weeks include division games against the Eagles and Commanders after the bye. Schoen said the team has earned the chance to play meaningful games late in the season, and that the approaching deadline will clarify whether it adds help for a possible postseason push.
