Gonzaga overwhelms New Mexico State in 109-68 win

Gonzaga pulled away in the second half to beat New Mexico State 109-68 in its home opener on November 7. Fogle and Harwell scored 22 points apiece, while Braden Huff added 20 for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-0. Javon Bennett contributed 13 points.

The Bulldogs shot 61% from the field and made 13 of 24 three-pointers. New Mexico State shot 44%. Gonzaga opened with a 16-2 run for a 19-8 lead, but the Aggies rallied and were within 47-42 at halftime. A New Mexico State half-court shot that would have narrowed the margin further was overturned on review.

Harwell opened the second half with a three-pointer as Gonzaga stretched its lead. Huff’s basket made it 70-57 with 12 minutes remaining, and the Bulldogs later turned four Aggies turnovers into points during a run that pushed the lead to 83-62. New Mexico State’s offense then faltered amid further turnovers.

Gonzaga finished with a 30-26 rebounding advantage after trailing on the glass in the first half. Izan Almansa sat out with a leg injury, and the Bulldogs used a tight rotation before several reserves entered late.

New Mexico State, now 1-1, travels to face UTEP on Thursday. LSU will visit Gonzaga at Spokane Arena on November 14; it will be the schools’ first meeting.
