Auburn Prepares for Appalachian State’s Defensive Challenge

Auburn faces Appalachian State on November 9 in a matchup between the 1-0 Tigers and the 2-0 Mountaineers. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. Central at Neville Arena, with the game airing on SEC Network.

Appalachian State opened with a 63-49 win over Merrimack, then beat Christendom 108-43. Auburn coach Steven Pearl has highlighted the Mountaineers’ defense, which has held both opponents below 50 points, as well as their depth and outside shooting.

Auburn has scored at least 71 points in each of its games this season, including preseason play. The Tigers are coming off a decisive win over Southeastern Louisiana, though some reserves helped steady the team while starters struggled early. Kolby King, George Kimble and Adam Olsen made key contributions, and Tahaad Pettiford’s 11-point run helped Auburn pull away before halftime.

Pearl said Auburn will need to box out to limit Appalachian State’s chances to score on rebounds. The Tigers may have an advantage inside, with 7-foot-1 Bukky Oboye and 7-foot Narcisse Ngoy showing signs of improvement. Auburn will be seeking a second win in its regular season as it takes on a Mountaineers team that has yet to face a highly ranked opponent.
