Illinois Beats Nebraska for Fourth Straight Win

Illinois extended its winning streak to four games with a 24-13 victory over Nebraska in Champaign on Friday night. The Illini, who had started the season 2-3, are now 6-3 and bowl eligible for the third consecutive year.

Quarterback Katin Houser completed 22 of 36 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. The performance came after he had dealt after suffering a hand injury earlier that season.

Wide receiver Collin Dixon caught eight passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Hudson Clement added five receptions for 87 yards, while Illinois’ defense held Nebraska to 13 points.

The victory marked a sharp change in direction after a loss to Duke and a difficult start to conference play. Head coach Bret Bielema’s team has now won four in a row, prompting discussion among fans about the possibility of a bigger finish.

Illinois could enter the College Football Playoff conversation if it wins its remaining games and finishes 9-3, though that would also require help from results elsewhere. For now, the win guarantees the Illini a bowl appearance for the third consecutive season.
