Tennessee Names Four Captains for Kentucky Homecoming Game

Tennessee has chosen fifth-year long snapper Bennett Brady and seniors Arion Carter, DeSean Bishop and Jeremiah Telander to lead the team against Kentucky on November 7. The game begins at 6:20 p.m. ET at Neyland Stadium, closing the university’s homecoming week.

The four players represent all three phases of the game and have often joined the team for the pregame coin toss this year. Brady and Carter have each served as captains in eight of Tennessee’s nine games; Telander has held the role six times, while Bishop has done so four times.

Coach Josh Heupel has urged his team to keep its attention on Kentucky rather than outside distractions, including the College Football Playoff rankings. Tennessee is ranked 13th in the initial ranking and controls its own path if it wins out, but Heupel emphasized preparing for the opponent in front of the team.

Heupel also highlighted Kentucky’s ability to create turnovers. The Wildcats lead the Southeastern Conference with 12 interceptions and have the conference’s best turnover margin. He said Tennessee’s defense will need to control the line of scrimmage, force third-and-long situations and communicate well against Kentucky’s pre-snap shifts and motion.

Neyland Stadium gates open at 3:15 p.m. ET, with half-price concessions available until 4:15 p.m. Four T-38 Talons are scheduled to fly over at 5:42 p.m., 38 minutes before kickoff, because of civil twilight restrictions.
