Kentucky’s Turnovers Fuel 34-6 Loss at Tennessee
Kentucky’s offense struggled against Tennessee’s defense, and the Wildcats left Knoxville without a touchdown for the first time this season. Turnovers and penalties repeatedly stalled their drives in a 34-6 defeat that could damage their chances of reaching the 12-team College Football Playoff field.
On Kentucky’s opening possession, a holding call wiped out a big gain. An end-zone interception then ended another promising drive, and a further holding penalty disrupted the team’s third possession. Tennessee took a 7-0 lead on a 66-yard rushing touchdown.
Kentucky’s first points came on a field goal after a penalty against Tennessee extended a drive. The Wildcats added another field goal after a fumble by Jovantae Barnes gave the Volunteers possession near scoring range. Kentucky went into halftime trailing 10-6.
Tennessee added a field goal early in the second half. Kentucky’s offense remained unable to build momentum, and a Kenny Minchey strip-sack gave the Volunteers the ball in Wildcats territory. Tennessee turned that opportunity into a touchdown, then scored again after a sack on Kentucky’s fourth-and-1 attempt. The lead grew to 27-6, and Kentucky could not recover.
The Wildcats have three games remaining: against No. 24 Florida, at Missouri and against Louisville. The loss leaves their playoff prospects precarious; another defeat would likely end their chances, though the report said their résumé could still give them an outside possibility of making the field.
