Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Unwell Sign With CAA

Alex Cooper, the host of Call Her Daddy, has signed with Creative Artists Agency alongside her spouse, film producer Matt Kaplan, and their entertainment firm, Unwell. The agreement covers the company’s podcast, live events and film and television work as well as Cooper and Kaplan personally.

Cooper left United Talent Agency in August, after working with the firm for several years. The change to CAA follows an investment from WTSL, led by Patrick Whitesell, that valued Unwell at $500 million. The agency switch is part of the company’s expansion beyond podcasting.

Unwell’s projects include Call Her Daddy and other podcasts, as well as television and film productions. Its slate includes Netflix’s Let’s Marry Harry and the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. Projects in development include a Netflix adaptation of Hannah Grace’s novel Icebreaker and Hulu drama You Deserve To Know, starring Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. A film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s Deep End is also in the works.

The company has launched original competition shows, Winter Games and Summer Games under the Unwell banner, on YouTube, and created Unwell Agency, its internal advertising and creative division. It has also faced allegations concerning staff turnover and Kaplan’s conduct in the workplace. Cooper and Kaplan have continued building the business amid those claims.
