Buena Vista Social Club Sets Broadway Closing Date

The musical will close after a 96-week run, producers announced on November 6, 2026. It began previews in February 2025 and opened the following month at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Its reported investment was $17 million, which it has not yet earned back, though producers say it remains on schedule to do so before the final performance.

Inspired by the Cuban musicians behind the Grammy-winning 1997 album, the show tells the story of the group’s reunion to make the record. Its score is performed entirely in Spanish, a first for a Broadway production. The musical won five Tony Awards in 2025, including honors for choreography and orchestrations, as well as a special award recognizing its onstage band. Its cast album also received a Grammy.

The show continues to draw audiences, but its box office has declined from its high point in 2025. For the week ending November 1, it grossed $678,878 and played to 89% of the theater’s capacity.

Beyond Broadway, the musical has a North American tour and productions in Puerto Rico and Mexico City. A London West End production is scheduled for 2027. Lead producer Orin Wolf also cited plans for further touring and special engagements in Mexico and Puerto Rico, and mentioned a film among future possibilities.
