High Point Hosts Washington State After Opening Loss

Washington State visits High Point on November 7 for its first road game of the season, facing a Panthers team that has won its first two games. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST at the Qubein Center in High Point, North Carolina.

High Point is coming off a 63-49 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore. Cam’Ron Fletcher led the Panthers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, recording his first double-double. He averaged 13.2 points and 7.1 rebounds last season and was named Big South preseason player of the year.

The Panthers finished 31-5 last season, went 17-1 at home and reached the NCAA Tournament as a No. 12 seed. They beat fifth-seeded Wisconsin in the opening round before losing to Arkansas. High Point also brought in transfers Jason Rivera Torres, C.J. Brown and Isaac Garrett, who were selected for the Big South’s preseason all-conference teams.

Washington State lost its opener 76-61 at home to Davidson, leaving the Cougars 0-1. Coach David Riley said the team’s many newcomers looked inexperienced against a side with several returning starters. The Cougars could be without projected leading scorer Ronnie Harrison, who injured his ankle during a shootaround before the Davidson game. Riley said he hoped Harrison would return.

High Point is 2-0 and will try to extend its unbeaten start against a Washington State team that finished 12-20 last season. The matchup is the first between the programs and is part of High Point’s homecoming weekend. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
