Weta FX Backs Taiwan Studio in AI Content Partnership
On November 5, 2026, Weta FX and the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) announced a partnership intended to strengthen Taiwan’s role in AI-powered content production across Asia. At the Taiwan Creative Content Fest in Taipei, Weta FX chief executive Daniel Seah and TAICCA chair Sue Wang formalized the agreement, with Taiwan’s culture minister, Li Yuan, in attendance.
The deal includes an investment in Moonshine Studio, a Taiwanese animation and visual effects company founded by Lin Chia-chi. The investment amount was not disclosed. Wang said Moonshine’s team had ranked first among Taiwan’s visual effects companies, and that it deserved greater opportunities and a wider audience.
A second part of the arrangement is a digital system for financing Taiwanese film and television projects, drawing on Weta FX’s international reach to help those projects find broader audiences. The companies also intend to develop AI technology through a memorandum of understanding.
The partnership’s third component focuses on talent. Taiwanese filmmakers, especially younger creators, will be able to take part in exchanges and internships at Weta FX, with the possibility of working there in the future. Seah said the company saw an opportunity for Taiwan to become a major production base, citing its creative talent and semiconductor industry.
Li said AI and cultural technology would be priorities for Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture over the next four years. Seah described the collaboration as a way to combine technology and artistic work as the content industry adapts to AI.
